What are LAIT Scores?

What are LAIT Scores?

The research score known as the LAIT score is one method of tracking prospects by prioritizing fundraising efforts. It assists fundraisers in directing cultivation and solicitation energies toward those individuals or organizations which are most likely to provide funding.

Each prospect is assigned a score out of 25 for these four criteria for a total of up to 100:

  • LINKAGE
  • ABILITY
  • INTEREST
  • TIMING

L—Linkage
It is important to know the linkage of our prospects to UGA: what is their relationship to UGA and our initiatives?
Are they alumni, Board members, volunteers, etc.?
For the purposes of measurement of linkage, the primary factor is the prospect’s past giving history and relationship to the university, providing an indication of past accessibility. This score is generated internally by advancement research.

A—Ability
Through research, wealth screenings, past giving, and other wealth data, it can be determined that the potential gift source has sufficient discretionary holdings to justify a gift solicitation at an appropriate level. The ability rating is based on their ability to give, not what we think they will give. This score is generated internally by advancement research.

I—Interest
How likely is the prospect to make a campaign gift? (See Likelihood in GAIL)

T—Timing
When is the gift expected to come in?

Interest and timing scores are assigned by development officers based upon their research and background knowledge.
